Burak Sar aka Sis was born in 1980 in Michelstadt, southern Germany, and from a very young age he
understood that music would play a big part in his future. Inspired by his musician father, who introduced him to different musical instruments and rhythms and performed in a Turkish group, Sis started out by forming a rock band in which he was the drummer.
Sis's first experience with Electronic Music was more or less accidental, when at the age of 21 he heard Dj Karotte playing percussive Indian-style beats at the U60 Club in Frankfurt. Inspired again, he immediately decided to buy a pair of Technics 1210s and learn to mix, and with the influence of his musical roots Sis was able to craft his own unique style of House Music. After a short period of time spent developing his DJ skills he soon started playing in small clubs and parties around Frankfurt and Mannheim.
Not content with limiting himself to DJing, Sis began learning the ropes of production. Again the elements of his musical past influenced his sound and he was able to introduce these into both his productions and his Live and DJ sets.
In a short time Sis gained confidence in his productions and from his first release in 2006 he quickly found success with his releases. His first EP (Lilly from the Valley EP, Amused Rec.), was followed with a release for 8bit Rec. (Voices of Istanbul EP). International attention came at the end of 2007 with his first release for Cecille Rec. (La Garua/Orgsa), a record which sold out within one day in most shops across Europe.
His second release for Cecille (Nesrib) was a real bomb, playlisted by all the top Djs around the globe. A number of other tracks for different labels followed, and then came "Trompeta", arguably the hit track of summer 2008. After handing the track to Ricardo Villalobos at Robert Johnson club in Frankfurt, Villalobos liked it so much that he decided to release it on his own boutique label Sei es Drum, which up to that point had only released Ricardo's own productions. Both DJs and DJ press agreed that Sis was one of best breakthough acts of the year, as Groove Magazine awarded him "Producer of the Year" and "Track of the
Year" (1st Nesrib, 2nd Trompeta) honours in their end of year poll, and Raveline named him the #2 Live Act of the year and Newcomer of the year for 2008.
The future looks bright for Sis in 2009. Riding a well-deserved wave of hype he has delivered a well-received release for Mitu Recordings so far this year, and will be following this up with his own label, Cocolino Records, as well as more quality tracks and DJ/live sets on the cards in the coming months.
